Tangidyne Corp designs and manufactures quartz and gallium phosphate (GaPO4) film thickness sensors (also called QCM's, or Quartz Crystal Microbalances and GCM's for gallium phosphate) for use in vacuum deposition systems (thermal, electron beam, sputtering, MBE, CVD and ALD processes) and liquid monitoring technology. For over 20 years, we have provided low prices, high quality and technical support that most suppliers are not capable of.
Founded by Scott Grimshaw, inventor of the long life "Alloy" quartz crystal in 1987, and the RC quartz crystal in 2004, Tangidyne is leading the way in cutting the cost of replacement monitor crystals, and in solving the problems that have plagued film thickness crystals since their introduction in the 1960?s. Witness our patented ThermaHead™ heated crystal sensor system which extends crystal life by as much as 300% for optical coating materials, our patented RC™ crystal that is immune from rate fluctuations due to deposition source radiation, or GaPO4 microbalance crystals which extend crystal operation to an unprecedented to 900°C. Make no mistake, Tangidyne Corp is the world leader in advanced quartz crystal microbalance technology, bar none!

RC™ Cut Quartz Crystals
The RC™ quartz crystal is a cutting edge microbalance design (US patent No. 6,820,485 B2, UK Patent GB2416209B) that solves an age old problem: radiant heat causes a quartz crystal to fluctuate in rate during a deposition. This fluctuation can cause rate or thickness errors of up to 100% and results in the inability to monitor precision layer depositions. We invented a novel doubly rotated cut quartz crystal that, unlike standard AT-cut crystals, does not change frequency when exposed to thermal radiation from deposition or heating sources. This enables the user to reliably measure ultra thin film depositions (< 100 Angstroms) that are a critical part of organic LED and precision optical coating (e.g. needle synthesis design) manufacture. Best of all, RC™ crystals fit standard 5 and 6 MHz instruments and are priced at $10 or less.

Replacement 1" diameter 5 and 6 MHz Liquid Monitor Crystals Pioneered by Maxtek and SRS, the use of quartz crystals in liquids is quickly becoming a technique to monitor corrosion, electroplating, biological materials and chemical reactions. The problem is, these crystals are expensive, and for good reason. A polished 5 MHz quartz “blank” (uncoated crystal) is very difficult to make without defects. But we decided to give it a try, and offer discount pricing on chromium/gold and titanium /gold versions. We will also make “specials” for you, with copper, titanium, aluminum and other electrodes. Just ask! Our standard price for polished gold/chromium crystals is $16.50 each. Nobody sells for less!

Replacement Quartz Crystals
We make the finest replacement 5 and 6 MHz quartz crystals you will ever come across. We use the same quality quartz as the original manufacturers, right down to the angle of cut and the surface finish. Only thing is, we are always under $4 each and offer significant quantity discounts. Better yet, we will beat anyone's price in the world. That means even Chinese crystals or Eastern European knock-off's.
Believe it or not, all monitor crystals are not the same. From surface finish to the rate at which you put on the adhesion layer, there are subtle differences in crystals from different manufacturers. Sometimes though, there are BIG differences in manufacturers and that can cost you dearly in the long run. To see what a good crystal looks like, email us for a free sample of 5 standard AT-cut crystals, today!

Superquartz™ Gallium Phosphate Film Thickness Crystals
SuperQuartz™ or single crystal Gallium Orthophosphate, is the next generation of microbalance crystal. With identical or in some cases superior properties to quartz, GaPO4 crystals allow operation at elevated temperatures. We supply these crystals in standard 6 MHz, 14 mm diameter, and are an exact replacement for a standard quartz crystal. These will work with any standard crystal monitor that operates at 6 MHz.
We have successfully used SuperQuartz™crystals at 920°C in a project funded by the US National Science Foundation. At that temperature the crystal was glowing cherry red and still oscillated! The applications for this wonder material remain to be developed, but current projects for CVD (chemical vapor deposition), ALD (atomic layer deposition) and high temperature chemical kinetic reactions are underway at a number of our customers.
